    Sheridan is looking for outstanding individuals to join our faculty team in the Child and Youth Care Program. This program offers students a comprehensive set of practical and critical skills, as well as knowledge in engaging and advocating with children, youth, families and communities through intentional strength-based therapeutic relationships in their life space using an anti-oppressive and trauma focused lens while adhering to the CYC competencies. Sheridan seeks part-time professors to teach in the following courses within Child and Youth Care:


    • CSRV15892 Anti-Oppression & Equity
    • CSRV20229 Group Facilitation in CYC
    • FLPL17198 CYW Field Placement Prep
    • CSRV23921 Working with Families
    • Field Practicum and Professional Practice Issues courses

    Sheridan professors are responsible for developing an effective learning environment for students while respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.


    Specific Responsibilities Include:


    • Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses;
    • Defining, evaluating and validating learning outcomes
    • Creating an effective environment for applied learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles;
    • Delivering course curriculum in classroom and/or online, which includes ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques;
    • Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations and incorporating technology into the learning process where applicable;
    • Attending periodic faculty meetings.




    • A Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in Child and Youth Care or a related field is required
    • Minimum of 3 years related professional experience in at least 2 different settings: residential, school, community and youth justice
    • Eligibility for CYC certification and membership in the Ontario Association of Child Youth Counsellors
    • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a facilitator in the field
    • Demonstrates and practices Cultural Competency and has experience working alongside diverse communities
    • Strong network of contacts with other professionals and agencies who employ Child and Youth Care Practitioners
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to link theory to practice
    • Committed to creative, innovative approaches to problem solving and community building
    • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
