    About the Position:

    The Director, Enterprise System Services (ESS), is responsible for the operations and long range planning related to Sheridan’s core administrative and academic applications, other institutional-wide and department specific application services, and College-wide delivery of IT Project Services.  Most of these applications and services are critical to the on-going operation of Sheridan’s business. The incumbent also manages major projects which may be cross-institution in scope and is responsible for staffing and budget issues.

     

    Specific Responsibilities Include:

     

    • Leading the ESS and IT Project Services portfolio (including 2 management positions and 28 staff (directly/indirectly)) as well as components of the supporting infrastructure and application integration services, by providing strategic direction in the adoption of industry standards and best practices for service management and related governance;
    • Developing governance policies and practices for new and/or upgraded information systems;
    • Assessing business unit requests for application development, identifying optimal strategy for meeting business needs, and developing business and project plans to build or acquire applications;
    • Directing the management of Sheridan’s databases and application environments and overseeing database architecture, administration and deployment;
    • Planning and acquisition of application technologies and services which includes working with business and academic units to develop strategic technology (ie. application infrastructure) plans;
    • Developing and implementing the short and long-term College strategies for technology projects to support College initiatives and IT service delivery and providing leadership on major projects;
    • Developing, guiding and empowering the team to deliver high level of service; Promoting effective HR planning and management; Fostering a safe, respectful and supportive work environment;
    • Budget and financial management; Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures;
    • Communicating the availability of services (ESS and IT Project Services) to Sheridan community and providing technical advice on application development and information management services to Sheridan community;
    • Working collaboratively as a member of the IT senior management team in the development of IT strategic directions for Sheridan and the design of policies and processes to support these directions.

     

    Qualifications:

     

    • A 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field is required. A specialization in application development and support or institutional data and systems management is strongly preferred.
    • 9 years of relevant experience which includes leadership, management and experience with systems and database architecture is required; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP), Database Administration (DBA), PeopleSoft, Control Objectives for IT (COBIT) and/or IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certifications would be considered assets.
    • Broad experience/knowledge of modern application design and supporting technologies relative to academic strategic objectives is required along with expert knowledge of the PeopleSoft family and other ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) applications and their underlying technology.
    • In-depth knowledge of application development and support methodologies, computer programming languages such as C, C++ and Java, system development tools and methodologies, application security, database administration, and web and application server technologies.
    • Significant experience sourcing technology, including writing RFPs.
    • Experience with various desktop applications to prepare reports, budgets, project plans, and presentations.
    • Proficient with project management to manage mid to large-scale projects or a program of projects.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to effectively articulate and gain understanding of complex technical issues or to seek agreement on sensitive issues.
    • Experience with various desktop applications to prepare reports, budgets, project plans, and presentations.
    • Leadership and performance management experience and proficiency is required.
    • Strong negotiation skills are required along with skills to effectively lead and manage change.
