    Reporting to the Director, Information and Communication Technology, the incumbent is a member of a team of technical staff responsible for the development and ongoing support of the College’s enterprise infrastructure.  This includes the server, storage, data protection, identity management, enterprise application, end user computing, and core ICT services that College students, faculty and staff rely on each day. 

     

     

    Specific Responsibilities Include:

     

    • Acting as a technical resource to provideTier 3 problem resolution for ICT-specific incidents for Sheridan clients, including participation in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule; 
    • Researching, implementing, and enhancing hardware and software infrastructure, with an emphasis on functionality, scalability, system performance, financial sustainability, and security;
    • Providing technical support and advice to a broad spectrum of College staff and committees comprised of technical and non-technical staff;
    • Participate as a technical resource or technical lead in Information Technology projects;
    • Helping to develop and follow service management procedures and guidelines; 
    • Performing other related duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications:

     

     

    The successful candidate will possess a 3-year diploma/degree in an Information Technology related program along with the following experience: 3 years of relevant experience administering large deployments of VMware vSphere, Linux and Windows servers; 2 years of experience with medium to large identity management infrastructures (e.g. Active Directory / LDAP); 1 year of experience working with Storage Area Networks / Network-Attached Storage (SAN/NAS); 1 year of experience working with mail systems; 1 year of experience working with network printing infrastructure. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be accepted. The successful candidate will also have completed technical certifications or training in some/all of the following areas: Microsoft-related technology (e.g. Windows, Exchange, etc.), Linux, VMware technology, backup and storage systems (e.g. CommVault, SAN), etc. 

     

    An excellent working knowledge of several current programming languages (such as Perl, PHP, Unix shell scripting, Microsoft PowerShell, or Java) as well as good working knowledge of common network protocols and services (such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS). Experience with building/supporting highly available web applications infrastructure, including common web & application servers and the use of load balancing technology. Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions (such as CommVault) is preferred. 

     

    The successful candidate will also have an in-depth overall understanding of how many different types of hardware and software components work; how they interact with each other (in order to plan and design complex infrastructure environments); and how to solve problems when they arise (to minimize impact to business operations).  The incumbent must possess good oral, written and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical management, staff, students, external clients or vendors. The incumbent is required to have demonstrated project management skills to participate in projects involving other IT and non-IT technical groups.
