    Reporting directly to the Athletic Director, the incumbent is charged with the daily operation of the Athletic Centre and field for all recreational, fitness and intercollegiate needs. The incumbent balances student needs with a demand for use by the community and the coinciding revenues and expenditures and is responsible for all rental agreements, contracts, tenants as well as short and long-term maintenance of the facility and field.

     

    Specific Responsibilities Include:

     

    • Organizing and administering Athletics and Recreation building operations including establishing policies, regulations and guidelines for use of the Athletic Centre by students, staff, faculty and community user groups and overseeing effective implementation of policies and procedures
    • Overseeing operations surrounding Varsity practices, games and facility use/access
    • Overseeing repair and maintenance of gymnasium and fitness centre; repairing flooring, lighting, equipment and playing fields; repairing and maintaining inventory of uniforms
    • Overseeing and participating in cleaning and maintenance of fitness equipment
    • Assisting with hiring, training and scheduling of all part-time staff and monitoring their work
    • Overseeing part-time salary expenditures to ensure they meet budget
    • Assisting in establishing the budget for equipment and facilities; recommending purchases for equipment/facility; submitting budget under strict time lines; ensuring that expenditures meet conflicting goals of capital, operations, upgrades and wages
    • Overseeing equipment and supplies purchases in consultation with supervisor; overseeing inventory control, fitting, storage, maintenance issues and purchasing requirements
    • Performing other related duties, as assigned
     

    Qualifications:

     

    The successful incumbent will possess a 2-year diploma in Business, Accounting, Recreational Facility Administration, or related field, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in facility management, including hands-on experience with building maintenance and operation of indoor and outdoor recreational spaces (or a relevant combination of education and related work experience). Knowledge and practical applications in floor resurfacing, fitness equipment repair, field ground maintenance and other hands-on operational skills for facility operations will be considered an asset. Experience with, or as part of, an Intercollegiate Varsity Team will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have well developed communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and set priorities.
