    Sheridan is looking for outstanding individuals to join our faculty team. The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences invites applications for part-time faculty to deliver curriculum in the School of Communications & Literary Studies in the English as a Second Language program (ESL). Sheridan’s vibrant ESL program is a gateway program to Sheridan’s many programs and other academic pathways, helping to maximize student achievement through an intensive focus on language skills and systems.

    Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to the creation of a learning-centred and inclusive environment where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to Faculty and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research projects and alternative delivery strategies.


    Specific Responsibilities Include:

    • Delivering course curriculum in classroom and/or online, which includes ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques
    • Tutoring and academic counselling of students, while evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses
    • Defining, evaluating and validating learning outcomes and designing appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning
    • Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations and incorporating technology into the learning process where applicable
    • Designing, revising, and updating of course material in consultation with the program coordinator, other faculty members, advisory committees, and potential employers and students
    • Attending periodic faculty meetings




    • Master’s degree in English, Applied Linguistics (or a related field of study) is required;
    • TESL Ontario/Canada certification or equivalent required;
    • A minimum of three to five years of experience in teaching at the post-secondary level, or equivalent experience as an English Language trainer in business or industry preferred;
    • Practical experience with a Learning Management System (LMS), such as DesireToLearn, is preferred;
    • Experience in using Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) strategies;
    • Strong network of contacts with other professionals, organizations and employers;
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills;
    • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
