Salary Range: $62,717 - $108,723 (based on relevant educational qualifications and experience)


Sheridan is looking for outstanding individuals to join our faculty team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering. S/he will teach a range of courses in programs across the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology and will actively contribute to core electrical engineering undergraduate curriculum, applied research and industry related projects. The candidates with strong background in power systems or feedback control theories are particularly encouraged to apply. Nevertheless, the candidate must be able to teach courses, using various teaching methodologies that support a learning by doing philosophy, in analog and digital electronics, signal processing, feedback control theories, digital control system design, and analog and digital communication.

Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to the creation of a learning-centred environment where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to College, Faculty and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research and alternative delivery strategies.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Integrating industry projects into the curriculum;
  • Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines;
  • Defining, evaluating and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs;
  • Creating an effective environment for learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles;
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning; 
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles;
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process;
  • Professors also ensure that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques; provide individual tutoring and academic counselling; and evaluate student progress/achievement within assigned courses.



  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field of study;
  • The successful candidate must have status as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  • Knowledge of the main disciplines of Electrical Engineering;
  • Formal studies in adult or higher education an asset;
  • A minimum of five years of project based, hands–on teaching and relevant industry research is required;
  • Experience leading project teams of undergraduate students working on Industry projects / applied research across a broad industry base;
  • Experience with printed circuit design and surface mount technology would be an asset, as well as the ability to teach system design techniques using LabView;
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in business or industry preferred;
  • Experience with design and implementation of digital systems using microcontrollers and FPGAs;
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer/Eagle/Proteus – Schematic Design and PC layout tool would be an asset;
  • Familiarity/experience with course curriculum development as per accreditation and international standards will be an advantage
  • Possess specialist knowledge and proven ability to operate specialist equipment and use discipline specific software.
  • Strong network of contacts with other professionals, organizations and industry;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrable ability to convey the conceptual and applied aspects of knowledge to a broad range of students;
