    Reporting to the Associate Dean (AD), Applied Computing in the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology (FAST), the incumbent provides expert technical analysis, administrative and operational support on an-ongoing basis to faculty, students and staff within the School of Applied Computing. The incumbent maintains technical currency, provides their expertise and technical guidance for all program areas within the School and is proactive in researching, analyzing and reporting findings for complex solutions to the ADs in order to anticipate new technologies to assist in the planning of curriculum development and delivery. The incumbent works on special projects and implements new technologies to improve the day-to-day operations of the extensive physical and virtual infrastructure for the School.


    Specific Responsibilities Include:

    • Supervising and administering all departmental server environments (physical and virtual), including installation, configurations, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs;
    • Researching, analyzing, recommending and implementing appropriate hardware and software configurations for the School’s information technology infrastructure;
    • Establishing and implementing procedures to support inventory management and automating infrastructure provisioning for students, faculty and staff within the School;
    • Implementing data retention and disaster recovery plans;
    • Creating the image for laptop and desktop machines in departmental labs in consultation with user needs and determining the appropriate configuration and operating system(s) to be used;
    • Initiating, coordinating and conducting inspection & maintenance procedures/processes for hardware/software;
    • Completing all diagnostics and repairs and initiating repairs with external service providers;
    • Providing oversight in the use of School facilities and maintaining associated records;
    • Representing Sheridan during visits from dignitaries and special interest groups;
    • Providing all forms of technical support and consultation for special events and conference planning;
    • Develops and implements procedures, inventory control, and is responsible for associated records.
    • Recommending and initiating purchases of new equipment; Purchasing supplies for labs;
    • Researching latest emerging technologies and designing testing procedures for evaluating software/hardware;
    • Performing other related duties as assigned.


    The successful candidate will possess 3-year diploma/degree in Computer Science, Systems Analyst, Telecommunications Technology, Systems, or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of server and network administration, including 5 years of progressive Cloud and Enterprise level exposure.  The successful candidate will also possess at least one of the following:  Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers (MCSE), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Cisco Certified Network Analyst (CCNA), A+ Certification.  Proficiency in server deployments using cloud computing software and tools (e.g. VMWare vSphere, devOPS tools) and client management of desktops and mobile devices is required. The incumbent must be proficient in the workflow for desktop, laptop and server equipment. The incumbent must demonstrate solid judgement and a high degree of network, software, hardware and server expertise which is used to make recommendations to enhance the learning environment, meet user needs and implement specific policies and procedures.  The incumbent must have demonstrable communication, organizational and time management skills.
