Reporting to the Associate Dean, Student Development, the Manager provides strategic leadership and vision for the delivery of Sheridan’s counselling and wellness services to enhance student wellbeing and enrich the programs which support the diverse communities at all Sheridan campuses. At Sheridan, student wellness is embedded in the Academic Plan.  The Manager promotes Sheridan’s commitment to ensuring student wellness is a shared responsibility and takes a collaborative, inclusive and integrative approach. This includes building and maintaining exceptional partnerships both internally and externally to enhance case management, support intersections, integration of efforts, the broader circle of care and programs. The Manager creatively champions and leads student support services such as service delivery model, intake assessments, counselling provision, crisis intervention, wellness strategy and delivery, outreach programming for students as well as management of clinical supervision. The Manager inspires the Wellness and Counselling Services team in providing exceptional guidance to faculty, staff, students and external partners on student mental health and wellness at Sheridan.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Building and maintaining a network of referrals in the community for students requiring therapy;
  • Providing oversight of medical quality assurance, regulatory compliance and organizational assessment programs;
  • Ensuring compliance of all legislative requirements and monitoring developments in mental health;
  • Developing metrics to analyze quality, quantity and impact of Student Wellness and Counselling activities;
  • Developing and implementing budgets (building budget, costing activities and monitoring/addressing variances; optimizing financial performance and resource allocation); managing equipment maintenance and inventory records;
  • Planning and implementing evidence-based program and resource strategies in response to changing mental health needs of students and employing best practices and service innovation:
  • Liaising or partnering with the external community (e.g. local health facilities, governments, medical community, other educational institutions) to optimize mental health care for students;
  • Performing other duties as assigned to promote the quality of the student experience.

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Master’s Degree in in a relevant field (e.g. Clinical or Applied Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or other relevant health related discipline), along with 7 years of leadership experience in a student, community or service focused role ensuring high standards of support, preferably in a post-secondary setting (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience).  Experience as a practitioner, clinician, educator and/or manager in a post-secondary setting is preferred.  The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of the role health and wellbeing plays in a post-secondary environment; will understand the post-secondary student life cycle; will exhibit a progressive attitude to wellness and demonstrate an awareness of current mental health issues of students, trends in mental health and treatment modalities.  The incumbent will also have the ability to analyze and respond to complex student issues and mental health diagnoses, using a supportive and holistic approach.  Experience with program design and implementation of wellness and service initiatives is necessary.  The incumbent must be trained in conflict resolution and have the ability to manage crisis related situations.  Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g. PHIPA-Personal Health Information Protection Act) and demonstrate an awareness of diversity issues is required.   Competencies will include strategic planning, service integration, operational management, financial acumen and facilitation skills as well as effective interpersonal communication skills to build relations with diverse groups, creative thinking and change leadership skills, proven ability to work collaboratively and build successful partnerships and organizational skills.  A current member, in good standing, of a college under the Regulated Health Professions Act for clinical supervision (e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario) is preferred.  Must be able to travel to multiple campuses, often on the same day.
